The Cincinnati Bengals are inching closer to training camp and there are five players who fans are definitely hoping to see more out of this summer.

Whether it’s that these guys have yet to show the team enough to really rely on them being a long-term member of this team or maybe they’re bouncing back from an injury, it’s pivotal for these five players to show they have what it takes to make a lasting impact on this Bengals team.

So, who needs to step it up and have themselves a top-notch training camp over the next few weeks?

Cincinnati Bengals who need a great camp – No. 5: D.J. Reader

The Bengals signed D.J. Reader last offseason hoping that he’d fill a strong need on the defensive line. While Reader was promising in the few games he did appear in, the fact of the matter is that his inaugural season in the Queen City was mostly disappointing.

The Bengals fixated on upgrading the defensive line this offseason and did so with the additions of Trey Hendrickson and Larry Ogunjobi in free agency while also drafting four defensive linemen. Reader is projected to be a starter this year but that’s not a guarantee. He’ll have to ball out in training camp to ensure that he is indeed a starter when the season begins.

Reader is entering year two with the Bengals and it’s time for when him to prove that he’s worthy of the four-year deal Cincinnati signed him to last offseason. Training camp is the perfect place to prove just that.
