Cincinnati Bengals who need a great camp – No. 3: Jackson Carman

One of the rookies who has the most eyeballs on him is none other than second-round pick Jackson Carman. The Bengals passed on Penei Sewell in the first round and while that decision wasn’t made by Carman, he was the first offensive lineman they took in this year’s draft. Because of that, it’s only natural that Carman will be compared to Sewell even though they’ll play different positions.

Carman played left tackle at Clemson but the Bengals haven’t been shy about their intentions with him. They plan to kick him inside to one of the guard positions but he’ll have to earn it first.

The guard position has been described as “fun” by Zac Taylor and those comments didn’t go over well. Carman is the favorite to win the right guard job but that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to be the Bengals’ starting right guard when the Vikings come to down for a Week 1 showdown.

Carman not only is a rookie but he’s a rookie changing positions and that makes him an easy player to hone in on during training camp. If he struggles at guard through camp, it’ll put a sour feeling in fans’ stomachs.
