Bengals: Here’s what we learned after the 1st day of training camp

Cincinnati Bengals Training Camp
Trey Hopkins appears ready to roll
One of the biggest question marks this offseason was if Trey Hopkins would be ready to start at center when the season kicks off in September. Hopkins spoke with the media and had some great soundbites while answering questions.
He expressed how much it sucked to tear his ACL in the final game of the season and what the rehabbing experience was like for him. He also got into the Texas/Oklahoma to the SEC discussions, which was fun to hear his side of things (even if he’s clearly biased, having attended Texas).
Trey Hopkins said it was a punch in the gut when he tore his ACL week 17: “It was a long six months… but I feel great.” Trey gave big props to Nick Cosgray (Bengals Dir. of rehabilitation and performance) for helping him to be fully cleared for the first Training Camp practice.

The best news over the past few days regarding Hopkins is that he’s been fully cleared and that means we should see him as the starting center when the season officially gets underway. This is huge because had Hopkins not been able to go, the Bengals might have been forced to start Billy Price at center, and at this point, fans know that isn’t a good idea.
Hopkins is an important piece for this offense and having him healthy and ready to rock’n’roll is wonderful for the Bengals.
