A splashy trade could help the Cincinnati Bengals improve upfront

The Cincinnati Bengals saw a lot of movement with their defense this offseason. Arguably the best player on the unit for the Bengals over the last few seasons, Carl Lawson, was allowed to test free agency and ultimately walk away from the team.

Cincinnati is hoping that the addition of Trey Hendrickson will be enough to pick up the slack and improve the defense, but it is unclear if that is even a lateral move and harder to call an upgrade.

With a slim market of free agents who play on the defensive line, the Bengals may need to resort to looking at the trade market for a solution.

Enter recently disgruntled Chandler Jones.

As recently as 2019, Jones was one of the five best edge rushers in football and would instantly become the best player for Cincinnati. Pairing Jones with Sam Hubbard and Hendrickson would give a great rotation of players who could all contribute, but provide the Bengals with the star power they need on defense.

The tricky part would be trying to lock Jones into an extension before making the trade, but if the money is there he would be well worth the investment.
