Bengals newcomers projected to be starters – No. 6: Jackson Carman

While it hasn’t appeared that he’ll be a starter during camp, Jackson Carman has been the favorite to win the right guard throughout the offseason. He finally took reps with the starters recently and it’s been made public that he won’t have the job handed to him — Carman will have to earn his starting gig, and that’s the way it should be.

The Bengals passed on taking Penei Sewell in the first round and waited until the second round to address their offensive line. Carman was their second-round pick and he played left tackle at Clemson, so not only is he a rookie but he’ll be switching positions, which is no walk in the park, especially for a rookie.

Carman has a tall task ahead of him and he’ll have to work hard for a starting job. While he might not win the starting right guard job right out of the gates, he’s a high draft pick competing for a starting job and it’s not at all farfetched to think he could eventually be a starter during the 2021 season.
