Bengals: How Ja’Marr Chase’s rookie season could go based off history
By Alex Austin
What will Ja’Marr Chase do for the Cincinnati Bengals in his rookie year?
With all of the comparisons out of the way, what will Ja’Marr Chase really do? Probably somewhere in the middle of what we’ve discussed to this point.
Is he capable of producing a Boldin-type season that blows everyone away? Absolutely.
Could he tank and end up becoming a role player instead of a starter? It’s possible.
More than likely, though, Chase has a good season that he uses to build on for next year.
Something in line with Amari Cooper’s rookie year is what fans can probably expect. Given that he already has a strong connection with Joe Burrow, Chase could quickly become a go-to target for the Bengals. He will have to share receptions with Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, but Cincinnati will likely throw the ball enough to satisfy all three of their top receivers.
Keep in mind that Chase will have the luxury (from a stats perspective) of playing in 17 games instead of a 16-game regular season like the rest of the players on this list.
An end-of-season stat line around 65 receptions for 1,050 yards and seven touchdowns seems like a reasonable prediction for Chase. Delivering these numbers would be encouraging for the Bengals and give hope moving forward that they have a great connection at wide receiver.
