Cincinnati Bengals bandwagons to hop on – No. 4: Drew Sample

The Bengals seem all set on offense.

With Joe Burrow leading the way behind what is (hopefully) an improved offensive line, there is a lot of excitement. Joe Mixon is back and looking to cement himself as a top running back in the league. The wide receiving corps is loaded with talent with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd.

But the Bengals could find additional help in the form of third-year tight end, Drew Sample.

Sample took a huge step forward last year and is destined for more playing time this year. After sitting out much of his rookie campaign, Sample helped the Bengals by catching 40 passes for 349 yards and a touchdown. After a full offseason of taking first-team reps, Sample could become a great player.

Drew Sample is one of the better blocking tight ends in the league, which means he would be an ideal candidate to fake the block and swing out for a pass. Providing Burrow a consistent outlet pass would be an effective offensive scheme for allowing some of the home run hitters at wide receiver to run longer routes. Burrow would be more comfortable waiting in the pocket knowing that he had a reliable underneath target.

Sample may never get to the elite tight end level, but taking a step forward could result in him extending a few drives to give the Bengals a chance to win.
