Underrated Cincinnati Bengals – No. 2: Trenton Irwin

The battle for the sixth, and possibly seventh, wide receiver has been an interesting one since the start of camp, and the heat keeps on cranking.

After signing Mike Thomas to another one-year deal in March, many thought that he would be a shoo-in for the final roster. However, the Bengals brought on Trent Taylor from the 49ers and also saw the return of Trenton Irwin from the practice squad.

Irwin has impressed through the first three weeks of camp and once again built on that in Tampa Bay. Irwin became a reliable target for Kyle Shurmur, catching three passes for 35 yards. After Thomas’ fumble and Taylor failing to record a catch during the game, Irwin made up a lot of ground in the position battle.

Irwin has made some spectacular catches during camp and has become a fan favorite in Cincinnati. If Trenton Irwin can bring value to special teams, his chances of making the roster will improve even more.

Continue to keep your eyes peeled on Irwin, Bengals fans.
