Underrated Bengals to Watch – No. 2: Thaddeus Moss

So yes, by now everyone is aware of Thaddeus Moss’ bloodline, and about how Moss has thus far underwhelmed at the NFL level. However, while the commitment has been questionable, the talent is undeniable and the connection with former LSU teammate Joe Burrow is compelling.

With the recent news that Joe Burrow is finally getting game snaps on Sunday, it would be interesting to see if there is still a Bayou connection. Even if they don’t play together against the Dolphins, why not surround Burrow with players he knows and has played with?

It’s not as if the competition for third tight end is elite, and it’s not as if either of the two tight ends ahead of Moss are elite pass catchers either. No offense to Mason Schreck or Mitchell Wilcox, but neither conjure images of Rob Gronkowski.

The position has mostly been devoid of a high-end option since the days of Dan Ross. Yes, I am dating myself with a Dan Ross mention, but look up his career highlights, Ross was a true baller. Tyler Eifert of 2015 feels like a lifetime ago and only underscores how good an offense can be with a true threat at tight end.

With C.J. Uzomah and Drew Sample set as the receiving and blocking tight ends respectively, a lottery ticket on Thaddeus Moss makes sense just in case.
