Bengals with something to prove

3. D’Ante Smith

D’Ante Smith isn’t in a position where he is at risk of not making the roster for the Cincinnati Bengals, but this remains a big game for the rookie lineman. He’s played very well so far in training camp and in the first week of the preseason, which has put him in a serious position to compete for one of the two starting guard spots if he exceeds expectations this week against the Miami Dolphins.

Currently, it is safe to say Michael Jordan and Quinton Spain are the favorites to win the two jobs, but Zac Taylor has made it clear that this team doesn’t have guaranteed starters at the position yet.

Good play in this game still may not win him the job for Week 1 against the Vikings. Still, it will beef up the conversation and make it a lot more considerable and open when discussing who these guards should be because one slip up from Jordan or Spain could easily lead to an early-season switch, which could pave the way for Smith to get his opportunity as a starter.
