Most Notable Bengals Roster Cuts – No. 3: Trent Taylor
The Bengals aren’t just stacked at the starting wide receiver position, but also at the backup position. This became evident when Trent Taylor was in a battle with Trenton Irwin for what looked to be the sixth and final wide receiver spot on the depth chart.
Taylor lost the battle, getting waived ahead of the deadline. As Mike Garafolo noted, however, the Bengals want Taylor on their practice squad, but he’ll have to clear waivers to do so.
This play was not enough for WR Trent Taylor to make the #Bengals’ roster. He will be waived today, but they want him on their practice squad if he clears. https://t.co/2LrgynKJMG

Taylor’s highlight of preseason came in the play included in the tweet above. He caught a deflected ball and dashed down the field, nearly scoring in the process. It was the most electric play of the preseason and it’s a bummer that it wasn’t enough to land Taylor a spot on the final roster.
If he clears waivers, it’ll be nice to have him on the practice squad if nothing else. When Taylor getting waived was announced, it was clear what the receiver room would look like (the three main starters, Auden Tate, Irwin, and Mike Thomas). Taylor didn’t generate much buzz when the Bengals first signed him but this move definitely had some Bengals fans saddened.
