Offensive Linemen to Sign – No. 2: Russell Okung

The reason Russell Okung is still likely waiting to sign somewhere is that he’s struggled to stay healthy in recent years. The former first-round pick out of Oklahoma State has had a really impressive career since entering the league in 2010 but he’s appeared in just 13 games over the past two seasons.

When healthy, Okung is a talented left tackle, making it to two Pro Bowls during his 11-year career. The problem is that he hasn’t been healthy but the good news for the Bengals if they were interested in signing him, is that he wouldn’t be a starter.

Jonah Williams provides the Bengals with a nice option at left tackle but signing Okung would be an insurance thing should Williams get injured. He’s also an oft-injured player, at least so far into his career, so this would be a move that could make a lot of sense for both the Bengals and for Okung.

The fact that teams haven’t shown much interest in Okung to this point is probably telling but considering he wouldn’t be a starter in Cincinnati, why not look into signing him?
