Under-the-radar Bengals vs. Vikings – No. 1: C.J. Uzomah

There has been a lot of talk about the offensive weapons Joe Burrow has to work with this year. Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, Joe Mixon, and Ja’Marr Chase have a high level of excitement around them because of the difference-making ability they bring.

The Bengal who needs to step up this year, however, is tight end, C.J. Uzomah. Before going down with an injury last year, Uzomah was showing that he could be a consistent threat to catch the ball from the tight end position, which is exactly what Joe Burrow needs.

If Uzomah can turn into a reliable target that would allow the receivers more time to run deeper routes because they know Burrow has a great check-down option. The deeper the outside receivers can go opens up the middle of the field for Boyd, which in turn, only helps the outside receivers if Boyd has more focus put on him.

Currently, the Bengals are in a good position with their skill positions on offense. They will be able to jump to the next level if Uzomah becomes a threat in the passing game. Against a weaker Vikings defense, this would be an ideal game for Uzomah to bust out a few key conversions and set himself up as a threat moving forward.
