Cincinnati Bengals Weekly MVPs

Special Teams MVP: Evan McPherson

Evan McPherson missed his first field goal of the season on Thursday but that was bound to happen sooner or later. It was from 43 yards but ultimately, hitting the game-winning field goal would put him above anybody else in consideration for the special teams MVP in this game.

McPherson’s clutch genes reign as this is now his second game this season with a game-winning field goal after the one he hit in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings in overtime. The Bengals playing for a field goal at the end of the game with a lot of time left speaks volumes to how confident Cincinnati is in McPherson.

In the last few seasons, we could have seen a different approach in the final minutes. It wouldn’t shock me to see them try and score a touchdown over settling for the field goal last year.

This season has shown how vital a kicker is to the success of a football team in the NFL. Kevin Huber did have some solid punts in this game which switched up the field, but nothing eye-opening that was worthy enough to put him over the kicker who hit the go-ahead kick as time expired.

This is why I am giving Evan McPherson this week’s special teams MVP. No one should argue with this.
