Bengals Matchups to Watch – Tee Higgins vs Jerry Jacobs

Having missed a couple of games nursing a shoulder injury, it’s fair to say that Tee Higgins wasn’t at his sharpest last week. He will be kicking himself for two big drops on vital plays. With the Lions having significant issues in the secondary, it could be a chance for Higgins to regain some confidence.

A less than 100 percent Joe Mixon will spearhead a running attack that will be missing backup Samaje Perine. That means the passing game will need to pick up the slack, and we could see Higgins used on a  couple of end arounds to ease the load.

Without Jeffrey Okudah and Ifeatu Melifonwu at cornerback, the pressure has been on Amani Oruwariye. In his second season as a Lion, he has held up well and should be responsible for trying to tie down the electric Ja’Marr Chase.

That means Higgins will get a shot at undrafted rookie Jerry Jacobs. Jacobs played at Arkansas State before a solitary shortened season in the SEC with Arkansas. The game will be a significant step up for the first-year player.

Against Adam Thielen last week, he allowed two receptions on three targets. It was a solid display even though he was responsible for allowing the game-changing catch at the death. He will face another big-bodied target in Higgins, and it will be a weak spot the Bengals offensive game planners will hope to expose.
