While the loss to the Jets was inexcusable and beyond embarrassing, Cincinnati Bengals fans should still be happy about who is quarterbacking the team. Even with a pathetic loss on Sunday, Burrow still played well and his MVP odds reflect that.
WynnBET has Burrow with +4000 odds to win league MVP at the end of the season, giving him the 10th-best odds. Josh Allen has the best odds at +300 and Kyler Murray is in second with +450 while Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, and Matthew Stafford are all tied for third-best odds with +600.
Right ahead of Burrow, oddly enough, is Derrick Henry, who is landing on IR after needing surgery. He has +2000 odds to win MVP despite not being available for the next few weeks.
Joe Burrow is still a strong MVP candidate
Burrow is one spot higher than Chiefs quarterback and former MVP Patrick Mahomes, who has +5000 odds to win the award after a very un-Mahomes-like start to the season.
Back to Burrow, however, he’s having a good season. After two shakier games, which can be forgiven due to him coming off an injury and surgery, Burrow has blossomed into the QB1 Bengals fans were hoping for when this team took him No. 1 overall a year ago.
To this point, the LSU Tiger has thrown for 2,215 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions through his first eight games this season. The interceptions are a bit concerning, as he’s thrown at least one in four straight games.
Be that as it may, Burrow is a big reason why his team is where it’s at right now. Sure, the game against the Jets didn’t go according to plan but Burrow has led the Bengals to a 5-3 record when many didn’t think that was possible this season. He also has them a perfect 2-0 against the AFC North so far.
Burrow could very well go on to be in the MVP conversation all season long, especially if the Bengals continue to win games and be a playoff contender.
We’ll just have to see how things shake out for the former No. 1 overall pick.
