Bengals 7-Round Mock Draft: First three picks spent on offensive players
Round 2: Pick 57 – Sean Rhyan, OL (UCLA)
UCLA’s Sean Rhyan played left tackle during his collegiate years but The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator had him listed as an interior lineman. This is likely because he lacks the length that a tackle needs to have in order to protect a blindside.
The Bengals need the most help on their interior o-line and with Quinton Spain now injured and entering free agency at the age of 30, left guard might be yet another position the team needs to address. Jackson Carman and Hakeem Adeniji have both played right guard this year so maybe the worst-case scenario is to have one of them play on that side of the line.
Ideally, the Bengals find a left guard in free agency or the draft and Rhyan is someone to eye in that department.
Round 3: Pick 90 – Jeremy Ruckert, TE (Ohio State)
Fans are hoping that the organization can retain C.J. Uzomah in the offseason and even if the team can, drafting a tight end early on should still be a priority. Drew Sample is a decent blocker but the Bengals didn’t draft him in the second round for him to excel as a blocker.
That’s why taking Jeremy Ruckert in the third round would be a smart move. Bengals fans are familiar with Ruckert considering he places for the Buckeyes and while his numbers don’t pop off the page, he’s a solid option to add to an offense looking for a tight end.
Ruckert finished his final season at Ohio State with 26 catches for 309 yards and three touchdowns but the numbers don’t tell the whole story. The Buckeyes offense is loaded with talent and that’s taken away from Ruckert getting to pad his stats but he’d be a wonderful addition to this offense and could be a starting-caliber tight end.
