For the first time since Jan. 8, 1989, the Cincinnati Bengals are in the AFC Championship Game. Their opponent is the Kansas City Chiefs, who are in their fourth straight AFC Championship Game where they’ve gone 2-1 during that time, winning their last two conference title games.

Nobody expected the Bengals to be where they are right now. This was a team that last year won just four games and the year before was the worst team in the entire league. They held the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, took Joe Burrow, and the rest is history.

Just two years into Burrow’s career, the stripes are in the AFC title game against the team that has dominated the conference in recent years. Cincinnati handled the Chiefs in Week 17 when the two teams met up in the Queen City and the victory gifted the Bengals their first AFC North title since 2015.

This time around, however, the game is in Kansas City in the deafening Arrowhead Stadium. Burrow has been under fire for some old comments he made about how SEC stadiums are much louder than any NFL stadium he had played in and he made it a point to say he was expecting a loud Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

Win or lose, we can’t consider this season a disappointment at all.

Bengals Injury Report vs Chiefs AFC Championship

The following players are DOUBTFUL for Sunday’s game:

WR Stanley Morgan

EDGE Cam Sample

The following players are QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game:

DT Josh Tupou

Cam Sample Injury Update

It’s a good sign that the only player in jeopardy of missing the title game is a backup defensive lineman. Cam Sample did not practice all week due to a groin injury. If he can’t go, the Bengals will be without Larry Ogunjobi and the promising rookie up front on defense.

Bengals vs Chiefs Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick AFC Championship

Cincinnati is a 7-point underdog against the Chiefs, per WynnBET. The moneyline for Cincy is +275 while the Chiefs’ moneyline is -350. The over/under is set at 55.0, indicating that Vegas sees this one being a high-scoring affair. If you saw Chiefs-Bills, then you’ll understand why that is. Both of these offenses can score in a hurry.

As far as making a prediction goes, no one would probably blame me if I went with the hometeam Chiefs. They’ve been in this spot before and they’re looking to avenge last year’s Super Bowl loss, which was one of the more embarrassing losses they’ve suffered in the Reid-Mahomes era.

That being said, Cincinnati keeps winning despite all of their issues in their two playoff games. For that reason, it’s hard for me to pick against them. Yes, I know they’ll be on the road against the two-time reigning AFC champ, but it’s hard to make it to a Super Bowl three years in a row.

Give me a 38-34 Bengals victory to get them to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1988 season.
