5 prospects for Cincinnati Bengals to watch at 2022 Senior Bowl
Derion Kendrick, Cornerback (Georgia)
- Height – 6’0″
- Weight – 190
Derion Kendrick has long been held in high regard by draft analysts. The cornerback was a vital piece of an excellent Clemson roster. However, his time as a tiger came to an abrupt end. After missing several games due to disciplinary reasons, Kendrick put this down to looking after his son; he was suspended and ultimately left the team.
It wasn’t the only red flag; Kendrick has been arrested for both marijuana and weapons offenses. However, he put these behind him and started fresh in Georgia.
The decision was sound, culminating in a National Championship for the Bulldogs. Kendrick was instrumental, with four interceptions, three QB pressures, and three pass breakups.
Kendrick arrived in Clemson as a 5-star recruit and the No. 4 receiver in the country; he then transitioned to cornerback. His receiving past is evident when you watch the tape, and he has all the hallmarks of a lockdown corner.
Kendrick could be a target for the Bengals on Day 2 of the draft. Should the team seek to bolster their offensive or defensive line in the first round, cornerback will be a pressing concern in the next couple of rounds.
Eli Apple has had an impressive year, but he’ll be a free agent. Duke Tobin and company need to find a long-term solution considering Apple’s potential departure and the Trae Waynes miss. If Kendrick’s red flags are not of concern, he could be a good option.
