Making the right reads

Joe Burrow has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL against the blitz. The Rams will likely try to test the Bengals’ offensive line in a variety of ways including disguising extra pressure. Joey Franchise will need to be on his best game at deciphering what is happening and making the appropriate decisions.

The best way to attack the blitz is to throw at the extra defender that is coming. Burrow has enough weapons that whoever the free player is will be able to create plenty of damage.

If the former No. 1 overall pick can continue his streak of identifying additional rushers and changing the play to attack the incoming weakness, the stripes will be in good shape. On the opposite side, the offensive line is porous enough that a misread could lead result in a big loss.

So much of this game is going to be decided outside of the actual plays. Playcalling and pre-snap reads are likely going to decide this game.

Matthew Stafford has had years of experience but has shown some serious lapses of judgment this season. I take Joe Burrow’s ability to identify the defense and lead the Bengals to victory.
