Cincinnati Bengals’ Biggest Surprises -Trey Hendrickson

Leading up to the Super Bowl, all everyone was talking about was how the Rams defensive line was going to terrorize Burrow. No one was talking about the Bengals defensive line, which is led by free-agent signee, Trey Henderickson.

The Bengals signed him from the Saints this past offseason to a four-year $60 million contract and Hendrickson was worth every penny. The former third-round pick had one good year in New Orleans, so his signing came with a few question marks.

However, the Bengals needed to make some moves on defense. Yes, their offensive line was terrible in 2020, but the defense was just as bad. The team addressed the defense issues with the signings of Hendrickson, Awuzie, Hilton, and Ogunjobi.

No signing or trade had more of an impact than signing Hendrickson did. He didn’t even need that extra 17th game to set the franchise records for sacks in a season.

The offense was getting all of the attention this year but, without this stout defense, the Bengals do not make the playoffs.

Hendrickson was a major part in why the defense was so good this year. He’s only had two years as a starter and is 27 years old. Trey Hendrickson has shown a ton of promise and appears to just be getting started.
