Including Samaje Perine on here has nothing to do with his Super Bowl mishaps. It wasn’t his fault that Zac Taylor opted to go with him over Joe Mixon and while some will criticize him for not hauling in Joe Burrow’s desperation heave to continue the final drive of the game, I don’t hold any of that against Perine.

So, why does he not deserve another season in Cincinnati then?

Well, that’s because there’s a solid guy behind Perine on the depth chart who the Bengals didn’t use much in 2021 due to Perine being the RB2. That, of course, is Chris Evans, who we saw strong flashes of potential from this past season but he never got a full opportunity to prove himself.

Cincy only has $350,000 in dead money if they cut Perine, saving them $1.5 million this offseason, per Spotrac. It’s not a huge sum of money that they’ll be saving but if parting ways with Perine means that Evans can have more opportunities to show what he can do, I’m all for it.
