Unfortunately for the Cincinnati Bengals, fan-favorite C.J. Uzomah has signed with the New York Jets. We wish him well except for when he plays against the Bengals, of course.

However, one part of Uzomah’s game was lacking, pass blocking. While that might not be the first thing one thinks of when scouting a tight end, it is a crucial part of what Zac Taylor needs from the position. Unfortunately, blocking defensive ends was not Uzomah’s strong suit.

What does Cincinnati do at the position now? As Stripe Hype’s Leigh Oleszczak points out, the team has to prioritize tight ends.

Will they trade for, draft, or sign a tight end?

If the Bengals decide to draft a tight end, here are five exciting prospects to consider.

5. Cade Otton, Washington

Cade Otton would be an excellent fit for what the Bengals want and need from their tight end. He is a willing and capable run blocker but even more importantly, he is an effective pass blocker. Otton more than held his own against Michigan’s two first-round defensive ends, Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabu. Otton did so both the run game and pass protection.

At the end of his time in Washington, Otton amassed 91 career receptions, 1,026 yards, and nine touchdowns. He is not an explosive receiving threat but with the Bengals’ weapons, Otton would not have to be. He would need to be able, and able he is.

Pro Football Focus has Otton as their No. 121 prospect. If this holds true on draft day, the Bengals would have to target him in the third round with their pick at 95 overall.

Otton would be an excellent selection for the Bengals.
