It never really felt as though the Bengals were going to put a lot of money into increasing the pass-rush. The unit improved significantly last year with the addition of Trey Hendrickson and Cincinnati will get Joseph Ossai back in 2022 after he missed his rookie season due to injury.

Getting Ossai back in the fold will make the pass-rush even better and that’s why it’s okay that the Bengals didn’t home in on Von Miller in free agency.

Miller, who has now won two Super Bowls with two different teams, entered free agency at age 33 but that didn’t stop the Buffalo Bills from giving him a boatload of cash. The reigning Super Bowl champion EDGE rusher signed a six-year deal with Buffalo that will pay him a guaranteed amount of $51 million. That’s a ton of dough for a 33-year-old.

Would Miller have made the Bengals defense better? No doubt.

At the same time, paying him that amount of money would have taken the stripes out of the running for other key players. It was probably a wise decision not to bring him to the Queen City.
