QB2: Brandon Allen

Brandon Allen joined the Bengals in the 2020 season and made five starts when Burrow had to miss time. He was re-signed for the 2021 season to back up Burrow once again and started the final game of the season once the team had clinched the division and a playoff spot.

In that game, Allen went 15-of-29 for 136 yards and a touchdown in an eventual 21-16 loss to the Browns. The game didn’t mean much but it did show Bengals fans that Allen isn’t a great backup to have.

Now yes, if Burrow misses an extended period of time, the Bengals are probably screwed but that doesn’t have to be the case. If they had brought in someone like Colt McCoy or Tyrod Taylor as a backup, that’d have helped keep this team afloat a little more if Joey Franchise was injured or unable to take the field.

Allen was re-signed this offseason and it’s a move that made sense for the team. Burrow and Zac Taylor both love the guy and he knows the system so it wasn’t shocking to see him brought back.
