Cincinnati Bengals RB depth chart ahead of 2022 NFL Draft
RB2: Samaje Perine
Samaje Perine has spent the past two and a half seasons with the Bengals and it didn’t feel like a guarantee that he’d be back with the team this year and still doesn’t feel like a guarantee. If the Bengals cut Perine after June 1, they won’t have to pay any dead money, per Spotrac.
Perine did well when he helped fill Mixon’s void during the 2020 season and Zac Taylor rewarded him with more playing time in the 2021 season. He finished with 55 carries for 246 yards and a rushing touchdown while also tallying just shy of 200 receiving yards with another touchdown.
Perine’s NFL career began when he was a fourth-round pick by Washington in the 2017 NFL Draft. He only played for Washington for two seasons before briefly landing with the Dolphins in 2019 before he signed with the stripes.
Fans might be a bit annoyed with Perine due to Taylor’s obsession with utilizing him in big moments over Mixon but that’s not Perine’s fault. He has experience but I’d be okay with the Bengals cutting him because it’d pave the way for the current RB3 to make more of an impact.
