Continuity

One of the recipes for success in sports, especially the NFL, is continuity. Knowing what to expect from your coaches and teammates as well as being familiar with the system is key to limiting mistakes and having success.

Lack of success and mistakes were in abundance prior to 2021. A big part of that had been the inability to find draft picks on defense to make an impact, bad luck with health, and a lack of stability on the roster, all of which led to poor results on the field.

Finally, in Anarumo’s third year, the pieces fell into place. The roster stayed remarkably healthy, key free agents like D.J. Reader, Trey Hendrickson, and Mike Hilton brought stability and professionalism to the defense that had been lacking in years past.

The results speak for themselves. The defense bent often but managed to keep the Bengals in games, which is all Joe Burrow needs to win.

With all of the key players under contract, 2022 should feature a young, aggressive defense ready to take another step forward.
