The Cincinnati Bengals had a lot of players who exceeded expectations and surprised the fanbase in 2021 on their way to a Super Bowl appearance. Still, there are plenty of names bound for a breakout season in 2022 with this team, and it could come from a range of different players.

Here are five players that will surprise Bengals fans in 2022.

5. Chris Evans

This could be when Chris Evans takes the reign as the number two back behind Joe Mixon. The Bengals still have Samaje Perine, who he will have to beat out for that spot, but even with Perine in the picture, Evans’ snap count rose as the season developed.

With an entire offseason and not much change of scenery, Evans will have plenty of room to improve and expand aspects of his game to make another serious offensive threat for the stripes this season.

Once Darius Phillips was injured, Evans took over as the primary kick returner, which should also give him another way to make a significant impact in year two.

His ability to catch passes out of the backfield sets him apart from Perine and Mixon. Of course, Mixon and Perine are capable of catching passes. Still, Evans gives Giovani Bernard resemblances with how he can line up in the slot and be effective or line up in the backfield out of the shotgun or play action and also be effective.

Evans will be a player to keep an eye on this season for Cincinnati and could be one of the breakout threats for this offense, especially with the hope of being behind a much more talented offensive line.
