RB4: Trayveon Williams

If Cincinnati elects to carry four running backs on the roster, Trayveon Williams probably has the edge as of now for that fourth spot.

Williams was a sixth-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2019 and has never rushed for more than 157 yards in a single season. That total came in 2020 when Joe Mixon missed the majority of the season.

Last year, Williams appeared in just five games and had 15 carries for 51 yards while snagging one catch for four yards. If he’s getting more playing time than anyone else on the roster, that’s not a good sign.

The Rest: Elijah Holyfield, Shermari Jones

There are only two other running backs on the roster (we’re not putting Pooka Williams with the running backs since he’s mostly listed as a wide receiver now) and they could be practice squad candidates for the stripes.

Elijah Holyfield has appeared in one NFL game and it came in 2020 when he was a member of the Eagles. Since then, he’s spent time on the Bengals’ practice squad, which is a possible destination for him in 2022.

Shermari Jones went undrafted out of Coastal Carolina and is another name that could land on the Cincy practice squad. Jones rushed for 1,040 yards and 13 touchdowns in 11 games with the Chanticleers in 2021 so he’s clearly capable of putting up big numbers.
