1. Left Guard

The Bengals have Jackson Carman currently penciled in at left guard, but how secure is his spot?

  • D’Ante Smith looked like he may have been an option during last year’s preseason before he was injured.
  • Hakeem Adeniji started nine games at right guard last year but struggled against talented defensive tackles.
  • Trey Hill was drafted as a center but can play guard and had issues as a first-year player.

Will anyone from this group put pressure on Carman?

Then, there is fourth-round draft pick Cordell Volson out of North Dakota State.

Volson played in five conference championships and four national championships. He knows all about winning and is not afraid of hard work. Volson has a strong lower body, explosive hands, and a mindset for the position.

When asked about practicing at both guard’s spots, Volson replied, “At the end of the day, it’s football. It’s putting your hand in the ground and moving your guy from Point A to Point B.”

You have to root for a guy that has an attitude like that. Fans should certainly keep an eye on Volson during this training camp.

If anything, the competition will keep pushing Carman to be the best he can be while giving the Bengals options before seeking help from the outside.
