Bengals special teams depth chart predictions following 2022 NFL Draft
Kick Returners: Chris Evans, Pooka Williams, Brandon Wilson
If Chris Evans doesn’t get more opportunities in the offense, then he’ll certainly get a chance to show what he can do on special teams as a kick returner. The 2021 sixth-round pick didn’t get many chances in the return game last year but it’s a role that he could slide into this year.
Pooka Williams was an undrafted free agent last year and came to Cincinnati with the intent to move him to special teams. He was a running back at Kansas but there wasn’t really a spot for him at that position. He tried his hand in the return game last year but it didn’t go great for him.
Brandon Wilson has spent the past four years as a return specialist but only appeared in nine games last year due to injury. Considering he’s held the role in the past, it makes sense to include him in the mix for this year.
Punt Returners: Trent Taylor, Trenton Irwin
Darius Phillips is no more in the Queen City and even when he was returning punts last year, it didn’t go great. He was injured late in the season and Trent Taylor slid in and handled the punt returning game much better so he’s the likely candidate to fill that role again in 2022.
Trenton Irwin returned three punts last year and with a decent preseason, he should be able to make the roster as a special teams option again for this year.
