This will be Devin Cochran’s first year on the Cincinnati Bengals roster. What should fans expect from the rookie out of Georgia Tech?

It’s not easy to make a team’s 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent and that’s what Devin Cochran will set out to do this summer. The UDFA out of Georgia Tech signed with the Cincinnati Bengals following the draft and he’ll have his work cut out for him in training camp and preseason.

Cochran originally played at Vanderbilt but transferred to Georgia Tech for the final year of his college career. According to Georgia Tech football’s site, Cochran started 12 games at left tackle last year. Here’s more from the official site on Cochran’s 2021 season:

"Honorable-mention all-Atlantic Coast Conference … Started all 12 games at left tackle … Anchored an offensive line that paved the way for two running backs (Jahmyr Gibbs and Dontae Smith) to earn all-ACC recognition from Pro Football Focus … Provided blocking that allowed for the majority of Gibbs’ 1,216 yards from scrimmage to come on plays run to the left side of the field … Selected to serve as a team captain five times in 12 games."

Clearly Cochran had a positive impact on Georgia Tech’s offense last season and he’ll be looking to prove himself this summer with the Bengals.

Bengals Roster: What should fans expect from Devin Cochran in 2022?

It’s going to be tricky for Cochran to make the 53-man roster so the most realistic expectation with him is that he lands on the practice squad. From there, maybe he ends up on the active roster in the final game of the season or if injuries take their toll along the Bengals’ offensive line.

Playing left tackle could help Cochran stick around, though. Jonah Williams stayed healthy last year but in his first two years, he only played in 10 games. If he goes down, Isaiah Prince or D’Ante Smith are the likely candidates to step in and fill Williams’ shoes but Cochran needs to show this summer that he’s worth keeping around.

More than likely, however, Cochran spends his rookie season on the Bengals’ practice squad.
