3. Chidobe Awuzie
One of the best free-agent signings from a season ago was Chidobe Awuzie, who had declined in production during his final year with the Cowboys. He picked up where he left off in 2019, however, and gave the Bengals the CB1 they desperately needed.
While Awuzie’s postseason was disappointing, he thrived in the regular season, notching a PFF grade of 83.3. He’s under contract for two more seasons but if the Bengals were smart, they’d try to keep him under contract past the 2023 season.
The NFL is a pass-happy league and teams can’t be successful if their secondary struggles to stop the pass. Awuzie makes the Bengals’ secondary better and even though the team heavily addressed that area in this year’s draft, Awuzie is the best player in that department.
Solid cornerbacks are hard to find so the Bengals shouldn’t let Awuzie get away.
