1. Joseph Ossai

One of the hardest kicks to stomach was losing rookie defensive end Joseph Ossai for the season. Shocked that Ossai was still on the board in the 2021 draft, the coaches quickly selected him in the third round.

Ossai showed his potential early last season in the first preseason game by getting passed new Bengals right guard Alex Cappa and sacking the goat Tom Brady down in Tampa Bay last year. Fans were overjoyed by the performance that Ossai exhibited during that game.

With Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson being the primary defensive ends, Ossai will be a tremendous rotational piece and may have the most significant impact on the team. His constant motor and relentless ability to go after quarterbacks should be exactly what the Bengals are looking for to boost their defense.

The Texas University standout played linebacker before switching to the defensive end position, making him a hybrid player with excellent cover skills. Ossai has what it takes to be a force in this defense and gives Anarumo what he likes best…options.

I am pretty sure that sitting through last year’s meetings and watching his team play in a Super Bowl was rough on Ossai, but now that he is healthy will add to the motivation to get back to another Super Bowl and be the impact player he was drafted to be.
