Bengals Roster: Realistic expectations for Tre Flowers in 2022
Tre Flowers was a nice addition to the Cincinnati Bengals roster midway through their 2021 campaign. What should fans expect of him in 2022?
While not a starter on the Cincinnati Bengals‘ roster last year, Tre Flowers made a strong impact during his short time with the team.
Flowers was a fifth-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2018 NFL Draft and was waived midway through this past season. The Bengals didn’t hesitate to snatch him off waivers and the former Oklahoma State product went on to make a positive impact in the secondary.
Where fans seem to give Flowers the most credit is his coverage on Travis Kelce in both the Week 17 win at Paul Brown Stadium and in the AFC Championship Game in Kansas City. Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL so for Flowers — a guy whose previous team had given up on him — to step in and keep him in check was really impressive.
Bengals Roster: What should fans expect from Tre Flowers in 2022?
Flowers won’t be a starter in 2022 unless injuries occur. The starting cornerback spots belong to Chidobe Awuzie, Eli Apple, and Mike Hilton with Flowers sitting behind Awuzie on the depth chart.
With how well Flowers performed against Kelce last year, Lou Anarumo now knows that he can rely on him when those big-name tight ends are up next on the schedule. Hopefully, he shows in 2022 that those performances weren’t flukes.
Considering that the Bengals acquired Flowers midway through last season and he went on to play a major role with the team and help them reach the Super Bowl, that’s pretty impressive. The Seahawks gave up on Flowers and Cincinnati was happy to have him on the roster and even happier to re-sign him this offseason.
