He is deserving of a new contract in the minds of fans due to his stellar performance as a Bengals during his time here. Bates has been nothing but a playmaker since he was drafted to Cincinnati and is looking to continue that for many years.

If Bates does suit up for 2022 he will have the largest chip on his shoulder due to the disrespect he feels he has been shown by the franchise by not giving him the extension he feels he deserves. He is an exceptional coverage man as he is always around the ball. He also has the talent to read the running holes and fill them before the runner can get going.
