Predicting who will lead the Cincinnati Bengals in interceptions in 2022
The Cincinnati Bengals were in the middle of the pack when it came to the total number of interceptions in 2021. The defense hauled in 13 picks during their magical ’21 season. Who will lead the team in interceptions in 2022?
Despite finishing last year in the middle of the pack in interceptions with 13, the Cincinnati Bengals should be able to improve on that number in 2022. They had a young group taking the field this past year and that helped propel them to the Super Bowl for the first time since the late 1980s.
Most teams have a cornerback or safety lead the team in interceptions but the Bengals’ leader in picks was actually Logan Wilson, who plays linebacker. Wilson finished the year with four picks with three of those coming in the first three games. He cooled off after that but got pick No. 4 in Week 6.
Of course, we all remember Wilson’s interception off of Ryan Tannehill in the AFC Divisional Round but this is the regular season we’re counting here.
There was a three-way tie for second place between Eli Apple, Chidobe Awuzie, and Mike Hilton, all of whom had two interceptions.
Who will lead the Cincinnati Bengals in interceptions in 2022?
While Wilson is returning this leader and has shown that he can be quite the ball hawk, he’s not my pick to lead the team in interceptions this year. It’d be easy to go with any of the other three players but I’ll be going outside the box and picking rookie Daxton Hill to lead the team in interceptions.
Hill might have only had two interceptions during his final year at Michigan but he’s going to be a ball hawk in this defense this year, especially with the variety of roles he’ll be serving in.
Some might go with a veteran to lead the team in interceptions but we saw Hill come close to snagging a pick in the preseason opener. He’s got the juice to be quite a takeaway machine in the Queen City.
