The Cincinnati Bengals made a handful of moves following initial roster cuts on Tuesday, most of which were to be expected.

Cincinnati had to make many tough decisions this week to trim the team down to 53 active players, but not all of those decisions were permanent. This week should see plenty of roster shuffling as the Bengals move pieces around, and the roster likely won’t be completely final until closer to the start of the season.

The first in the series of moves was re-signing wide receiver Mike Thomas, a veteran who was temporarily released on Tuesday to make space on the roster.

Thomas brings to the table a wealth of special teams experience and has settled nicely into the Bengals system as a gadget player for the last two years. He started one game and played in 12 games in 2021, recording just five catches for 52 yards and no touchdowns, but his real value lies in special teams.

Cincinnati also added tight end Nick Bowers, safety Yusuf Corker, and corner Marvell Tell to the practice squad.

Those additions add key depth at needy positions for the Bengals; Tell will compete against UDFA corner Allan George for backup duties while Corker will compete against Tycen Anderson in the safety unit.

The Bengals also placed two players on the Reserve/ Injured list: Khalid Kareem and Cam Taylor-Britt.

None of these moves should come as a surprise, and this offseason period for the Bengals could be considered relatively quiet as other NFL teams are busy making trades.

Cincinnati’s starters for the 2022 season are set, but the depth behind them will constantly change as players move back and forth between the active roster and the practice squad.
