The Cincinnati Bengals hoped they had themselves a dawg when they signed Noah Fant just before the 2025 season got underway. He was a former first-round pick out of the tight end factory of Iowa and with Joe Burrow at the helm and his reputation of boosting tight ends' stock, what could go wrong?
Well, Fant ended up with an incredibly disappointing tenure in the Queen City. He finished the year with just 34 catches for 288 yards and three touchdowns while losing three fumbles. Sure, the Bengals had Mike Gesicki as their main tight end but Fant was signed to be another offensive weapon and he was not that for this crew.
Bengals fans were not sad to see Fant go this offseason and he joined the Saints in free agency, the fourth team of his career. Before he signed on with the Bengals and later with the Saints, Fant was a first-round pick by the Broncos, spent three years in Denver, and then was part of the Russell Wilson trade that sent him to Seattle. He played with the Seahawks for three years and then landed in Cincy.
When Fant left in free agency, Bengals fans probably scoffed and said "Yeah good luck with that, Saints" when the news dropped. But, three games into his New Orleans tenure, Fant has been pretty dang good with his new team.
Bengals fans may be frustrated by what Noah Fant is doing with Saints
Through his first two games, he had four catches for 33 yards and a touchdown but it was Week 3 when Bengals fans really took notice of him. Fant added two more touchdowns to his season total, tying him with his entire Bengals touchdown total in just three games. Ouch.
Fant has been the kind of playmaker in New Orleans that the Bengals were hoping they'd get when they signed him. Perhaps the Bengals simply weren't a good fit for Fant and the Saints are a great fit for him. No matter what the situation is, it's frustrating to see him thriving early on with his new team.
Offensively, the Bengals have been great under Burrow but it's still annoying to see someone who was supposed to make an impact with them peter out and then be dominant not even a year later.
Hey, at least the Bengals are fortunate to have a great tight end in Gesicki who has been a massive security blanket for Burrow and the Cincinnati offense.
