The Cincinnati Bengals have been preparing this week for their Week 2 test, which will be a trip to Houston to play the Texans on Sunday. It comes after Cincinnati beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-27 in Week 1, in what was a convincing victory.
Houston's defense is considered amongst the NFL's elite, but they struggled last week. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills managed to put up 36 points on them, as Allen threw for over 330 passing yards. But they remain one of the best in the league, and the Bengals will certainly have their work cut out for them on offense.
One of the leaders on the Texans' defense is edge rusher Will Anderson Jr., who is a former Defensive Rookie of the Year. The 25-year-old is expected to cause problems for the Cincinnati offensive line, despite the fact that it looked much improved against the Buccaneers.
Will Anderson Jr. believes the Bengals are as much of a threat as the Bills
Last week, Joe Burrow was the least pressured QB in the NFL (it's the first time we've been able to say that), and so Anderson Jr. will know that he'll have to be at the top of his game if he is to get pressure on the Bengals' signal caller.
It seems that the Texans' star pass rusher is already aware of the test that he and Houston face on Sunday. He said in a press conference this week that he believes the Bengals are as much of a contender in the AFC as Buffalo is.
He was asked by the media after he said last week that the Bills are an AFC Championship contender whether he feels the same way about the Bengals, and his answer was telling...
"Most definitely. You look at the quarterback, then you look at the receivers they have; they have a great running back in Chase [Brown], and the O-line is really good. The more we be who we are, we’ve got a really good team, and we’ve got to continue to be a really good team."
Based on the showing in Week 1, Anderson Jr. could well be proven right, as the Bengals showed they have a strong defense now, and on his day, everybody knows that Burrow is capable of being the best quarterback in the NFL alongside the likes of Allen and Patrick Mahomes. The Bengals just need to prove it now.
