2015 NFL Draft: Stefon Diggs, The Next Late Round Gem

The Cincinnati Bengals are a team that has found much success in the later rounds of the NFL Draft as well as with undrafted free agents. They selected both Geno Atkins and Clint Boling in the fourth round, while also getting Marvin Jones and George Iloka in the fifth round. In the sixth round, the Bengals selected two quality running backs in Rex Burkhead and Daniel “Boom” Herron.  And just this past year the Bengals found James Wright in the seventh round; with time, he could grow to be a very good player.

“There are people in the building who think he’s already the NFL’s best fullback after his rookie season.”

But the Bengals ability to find the “diamonds in the rough” hasn’t stopped there. They were able to find quality players like Vontaze Burfict, Emmanuel Lamur, Ryan Hewitt and Trey Hopkins as undrafted free agents.

Each of these players, other than Hopkins, has been very productive in their short careers; yet Hopkins could have a very promising career if he can stay healthy. Vontaze Burfict is one of the best in the league and Ryan Hewitt may be in a league all his own according to the Bengals.

This year, the next late round gem will come in the form of a wide receiver in the fifth round. This player is Stefon Diggs from Maryland. One look at Diggs’ film and you can see that he has “it”. He also has the big play ability that the Bengals’ offense needs.

Mohamed Sanu proved to be a very good third option last year and, in 2013, Marvin Jones proved he was capable of being that sidekick to A.J Green. Although I believe all three of these players will be back in stripes 2016, the Bengals should still make this selection. Diggs would give the Bengals the big play potential they lost when Andrew Hawkins left while also giving the team a very good returner.  Brandon Tate has been a very solid returner for the Bengals, but it may be time for a change. Stefon Diggs would not only be a great receiver, but could be the next Adam Jones as a returner.

When we watch games, Bengals fans are ready to be amazed every time Adam Jones or Giovani Bernard gets the ball. Stefon Diggs would make you feel the same way. Every time he touches the ball he is looking to take it the distance.

Stefon Diggs is primed for success. As long as he can get his touches, he could be what the Bengals need to win a playoff game and maybe go even further. After all, it is the “Drive for Five”.
