Fantasy Football Week 2: Waiver Sneaky Starts

Week one of the NFL season is in the books and what a week it was. Several players stepped up to reward their team and fantasy owners with big performances. Last weeks “Sneaky Starts” didn’t disappoint, with the exception of Marvin Jones, who had a touchdown pass knocked away but otherwise has a quite day. This week should be no different as several players on the list have the potential to be quality starts for week 2. There’s also a good chance they are on the wavier in your league for you to pluck and play.

Week 2 Waiver Sneaky Starts:

QB – Nick Foles vs Washington Redskins

I think this is the year that Foles finally gets the respect that he deserves. After being shipped to St. Louis in a trade for Sam Bradford, Foles showed up during week one against one of the leagues best defenses. Foles not only the arm, but the confidence to throw the ball down the field for potential big plays. He is available in 82% of Yahoo leagues.

RB – Dion Lewis vs The Buffalo Bills

This recommendation probably comes strictly in a PPR format and as a possible running back flex play. Patriots starting running back LeGarrette Blount comes off of his suspension this week, but he won’t find many lanes in Buffalo’s stout front line defense. Enter Dion Lewis, I expect the shifty runner to see double digit targets this week with Buffalo trying to take away tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Julian Edelman. He currently is only owned in 30% of Yahoo leagues.

WR – Nate Washington vs Carolina Panthers

Washington was able to grab 6 of his 11 targets for 105 yards.  This was in a game that was over in the 3rd quarter and the Titans had to pass with higher frequency, but Washington provided a nice complement in the passing game as a reliable veteran for the Texans QB’s. Washington is available in 92% of Yahoo leagues and could make a good flex play or WR3/4. With Adrian Foster out of the lineup and Alfred Blue being Alfred Blue, the Texans will be forced to air it out more then they would like too.

TE – Charles Clay vs New England Patriots

The Bills out bid Miami for Clay’s services and he gave them a glimpse of there return on investment last week, catching all four of his targets for 43 yards. In Tyrod Taylor’s first start as a Bill, Clay showed his ability to be a mismatch against linebackers and safeties. Last week New England gave up eight catches on 11 targets to the tight end position. Clay is owned in 16% of Yahoo leagues.
