Football is finally here! The Bengals have reported to training camp and will begin working for the 2016 season.

The NFL offseason is one of the worst times us fans can go through. But, it’s coming to an end! Training camp is here and the Bengals have some very interesting pieces that we’ll want to keep an eye on.

The Receiving Corps

The Bengals have arguably the most intriguing receiving battle going on in the NFL.  Of the 89 players reporting to training camp, a whopping 13 are receivers. A.J. Green may be the only certainty at the receiver position. That leaves a 12-man battle for 5 or 6 receiver spots. Tyler Boyd and Brandon LaFell obviously have an upper hand in obtaining two of those spots (probably starting positions). Now that leaves three spots for James Wright, Mario Alford, Jake Kumerow, and newly signed Rashaun Simonise —amongst others—to round out the receiver roster spots.

What to do with Rex Burkhead

Burkhead may be the Bengals most underutilized specialist. With an already loaded receiver battle, will we still see him in the slot? Could we see him in the backfield a little more? Is there a fit for him as a returner? Burkhead has always made noise when he sees the field, those times have been limited. It will be very interesting to see where new offensive coordinator Ken Zampese lines up Rex.

The Offensive Line

The Cedric Ogbuehi era is here. Is it time for the Jake Fisher era to start with him? Russell Bodine has been the consistent weak link in an otherwise solid offensive line. We may see rookie Christian Westerman challenge Bodine for the center position, and if nothing else, improve his play.

All in all, football is finally here and we can begin to see the Bengals cut down from 90 players to 53 over the next few weeks. Be sure to stay tuned here at Stripe Hype for Bengals Training Camp coverage!
