2. Gerald Everett
C.J. Uzomah is headed to the Jets and the Bengals are now left with Drew Sample as their best tight end option entering the 2022 season. There’s still the draft, of course, but rookie tight ends aren’t always the most effective and Cincinnati needs a tight end who can step in and make some kind of positive impact.
We saw how Joe Burrow would target Uzomah on critical third-downs and that kind of playmaker will be missed. Gerald Everett could be a viable replacement, however.
Everett is a similar player to Uzomah, especially when looking at his stats. He hasn’t had a single season where he’s gone for over 500 yards but he makes the most out of his receptions. He’d be a reliable target for Burrow on those key third-downs and could give the Bengals an Uzomah-like player in their offense.
With all of the weapons the Bengals have on offense, they don’t necessarily need a game-changing tight end. Everett isn’t a game-changer but he can be there when Burrow needs a crucial first-down.
