It's been an unusual preseason for the Cincinnati Bengals, as it feels like nothing has gone wrong, there's been appearances from a few of the starters, and plenty of feel good stories from some lesser known names.
Dohnte Meyers has no doubt been THE feel-good story of the Bengals' pre-season. The 26-year-old was undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and ended up signing with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Meyers' path the to the Bengals is incredible
After not quite making the grade in Canada, he ended up delivering DoorDash for some extra cash, before paying $100 to tryout for the CFL again, where he was noticed by the Bengals.
Meyers began on the practice squad before making a real impact in training camp. After this, he was given the chance to prove himself in the pre-season. Across the three games, the wideout was arguably Cincy's best player on offense. He caught eight receptions for 92 yards and looked as NFL-ready as anyone in the league.
Remarkably, Meyers made the 53-man roster and now has a locker next to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Unsurprisingly, the emotions were high for the 26-year-old when the Bengals' wide receivers coach, Troy Walters, called him up to tell him the news. He spoke to NBC reporter Charlie Clifford to describe the feeling.

Meyers could become what Charlie Jones never was
The news of Meyers making the roster comes just after it was revealed that former fourth-round pick Charlie Jones was cut from the team. After three seasons in Cincinnati, where Jones managed to accumulate just eight receptions for 69 yards, he has now moved to New York to join the Giants.
Jones turned into a reliable return man; however, he never managed to make that step up as a pass catcher against the likes of Andrei Iosivas. It is now Meyers' job to overcome the competition in the receiever room, and become an impactful player for the Bengals.
He's got to overcome not only Iosivas, who is currently the WR3, but also rookie Colbie Young, who has also impressed in training camp, and someone who the Bengals expect to make a run at challenging Iosivas too.
Meyers has done the hard part in terms of making the roster; he now needs to prove he's worth it. Based on what we've seen so far, the former CFL wideout will have no problem with that.
