The Cincinnati Bengals came out victorious in their Week 8 matchup with the Tennessee Titans, but it wasn't without stress.
The tension was palpable as the Bengals were taken down to the wire against the one-win Titans. Star Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase had one of his best games this season in the box score, but his visible anger on the field and on the sideline tells a different story.
11 receptions and 141 receiving yards with a touchdown to boot seems like it should be enough to satisfy one of the league's top receivers, but a lot was still left on the field.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was visibly upset
The Bengals were in a dogfight with one of the worst teams in the league when quarterback Joe Burrow massively underthrew a wide-open Chase for one of his three interceptions. Not only did Chase miss out on a long touchdown catch, but he was put in a precarious position as he tried to get back to the football, and the defender landed right on his knee.

It was after this play that Chase was seen throwing his helmet on the sideline. Closer footage showed that he had words for almost everyone on the team. Head coach Zac Taylor said after the game that he liked the fire from Chase.

Ja'Marr Chase addressed his anger leading up to the Week 9 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons
After much speculation about what Chase said and who he was mad at, the star wide receiver finally addressed the outburst in a press conference leading up to the game in Madrid against the Atlanta Falcons.
In an article by Mike Petraglia from CLNSCincy.com, Chase said the outburst was blown out of proportion.
"I mean, I’m a leader. I want the best for everyone, everyone around me, especially when the offense isn’t clicking,” Chase said. “I have a great group of teammates. They let me speak my mind and my opinion. At the end of the day, as long as I do with respect at the end of the day, I believe Zac can vouch for me. Me and him already had a talk, so you know everything’s already blown out of proportion whenever I do.”
Burrow addressed Chase's emotion right after the game. He, like the rest of the team, did not seem to be too worried about it. In an article from ESPN, Burrow attributed the outburst to the nature of the emotional game.
"A lot of different things," Burrow said. "It was an emotional game. I didn't hit him on the deep one, and we turned it over too many times. He wants to win and wants to execute on every snap -- as do I. That's how it goes."
It was a stressful battle with the one-win Titans, but the high emotion from Chase may have also been due to mounting stress. The Week 8 win over the Titans was the first time this season Chase has had over 100 receiving yards in a game. For the first time in his career Chase is trailing fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins statistically. Chase himself has said winning is most important, but in that moment it may have felt like the Bengals were going to lose to one of the worst teams in the league.
When a statistical output that doesn't live up to the ridiculously high standard set by Chase is combined with mistake-ridden football from the rest of the team, it is easy to see why he was visibly upset.
