Rivers cap number for this season was $3.855 million ($2.160 million base, $1.545 million prorated bonus and $250,000 workout bonus), so it was easy for the Bengals to say goodbye despite the high-draft status. The team can’t feel too bad. Three of the top nine draft picks (Vernon Gholston, Derrick Harvey, Keith Rivers) from that year are now with new teams, and two others (Darren McFadden, Glenn Dorsey) have barely shown the abilities to warrant a first-round draft pick. The Bengals can’t relish in the past however, as they now have an immediate need at the LB spot.
